New technologies simultaneously fascinate and petrify me, which is why I started my first library blog in 2009. It was a great way to create a space for parents and kids that complemented the library website. As a professional, it has kept me in sync with the world. It's proven to be a great communication tool, for marketing new programs, informing patrons, keeping track of our new books with widgets, or simply a place for our kids to showcase their talents.
The the best way to keep current as an information professional and fearless of technology is to use it. Now, with the emergence of apps, information is literally at my fingertips. I have created booklists on Google Docs, collaborated with colleagues via video Hangouts, and check in to Feedly daily to keep up on the latest library, tech, and educational blogs and news. There is so much out there that's free and fun! What an amazing time to be a librarian!
